Choose Between Glazed And Unglazed Porcelain Tiles
Porcelain tiles are the most selected tiles by customers. They are affordable and durable too. Everyone wants the home to look gorgeous with the tiles installed. Some like glazed and some like unglazed according to their taste. The main difference between the glazed and unglazed is that there is a protective coating of liquid glass on the surface. This extra covering covers the pores of the surface. Other than the looks and the extra finishing there are many other differences in between glazed and unglazed finishes.
Glazed Tiles:
If slippery is not a problem and there is not much traffic then glazed ones would be a perfect choice. This is versatile as it can be used anywhere. There is an array or colors and designs available. It matches with traditional or contemporary decors. There are many designer tiles available with many natural looking to fabric designer ones. Instead of the costly natural stone tiles, these tiles look exactly the same at an affordable price.
Inkjet technology is used to give a designed surface. After the designs are printed it is glazed to protect the design. The high-end look of wood or natural stone is given. Because of the glazed surface, there is resistance to stains and scratches. There are no pores due to the glazed surface and thus ideal for the areas exposed to more moisture.
The darker colored glaze does not mean to be more robust than the lighter glaze. Matte finish or satin finish is harder than the glazed or shiny finish.
Examples: Brickstone Taupe Porcelain, Nero Upscape Wood Look Porcelain, Mist country River Wood Look Porcelain and Glacier Focus Porcelain
Unglazed Tiles:
For any commercial or residential project where there is more traffic unglazed tiles are ideal. If the area has more moisture or water then these are perfect. The main difference is that these do not undergo one more firing process. They are made from the mixture of natural clay and pigments. This makes it look natural and gives the earthen beauty.
There is more friction in unglazed tiles as they are thicker and denser. Wet areas like pool surround, bathroom, kitchen, and laundry areas are recommended with these. For more traffic areas they are the best as they are more resistant to scratches.
Unglazed tiles do not have a coating and thus may get stained. It is better to wax or seal them if used indoors.
